Programs

Clubs in our district participate in a variety of local and international programs.  The following is an abbreviated list of programs currently available at the club level.

District 6980 clubs are very active in their respective communities.  Local projects may involve painting homes of senior citizens, preparing meals for the indigent, providing school books for a local school library, recognizing student achievements, etc.   On an international level, clubs partner with Rotary clubs in other parts of the world and through a matching grant system, they are able to provide fresh water, provide medical help, immunize children against disease, and provide assistance during natural disasters, to large numbers of people.

Our clubs sponsor 23 local High School Interact clubs.  Rotary clubs in our district also provide a leadership program for selected High School sophomore and seniors from every high school in greater Orlando.  This program is known as Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (R.Y.L.A.).  A new program called Early Act now exists in two elementary schools and most recently, a Rotaract (College) club was chartered at Rollins College.  CLICK HERE if you are interested in learning more about these programs.

Our Youth Exchange program is specially tailored for High School students (15-19) who want to experience living in a foreign country for a short period of time (as short as two weeks)or spend an entire year living and studying abroad.  CLICK HERE if you are interested in learning more about this program.

The district also supports Rotary International’s Ambassadorial and Grants for University Teachers.   Learn more about these scholarships – CLICK HERE.  Candidates must apply through a local club.   Peace Scholarships are very competitive (less than 100 worldwide) and are for specific universities.  CLICK HERE – if you are interested in learning more.

Rotary Community Corps (RCC) is a group of non-Rotarians organized and sponsored by Rotary clubs who offer service assistance within their community.  RCC is currently being formed in the district.  CLICK HERE – if you are interested in learning more.

Rotary Friendship Exchange offers an opportunity for Rotarians across the world to visit each other’s home countries and to gain first hand experience of another culture. This is currently being developed in the district.  CLICK HERE – if you are interested in learning more.

Group Study Exchange teams consisting of a Rotarian and 5 or 6 non-Rotarian young professionals (25 to 35) are formed in our district each year.  The team visits professional counterparts in a Rotary District outside the United States.  A reciprocal team visits our district.   CLICK HERE – if you are interested in learning more.
